There are 2 payment options:
1. Through your education institution: Contact your institution to advice on the correct way to remit payment EMGS through them.
2. Online payment using a Visa or MasterCard on the educationmalaysia.gov.my website. Please note that there will be a 3% Convenience Fee added to the total amount requested for your application. Online payment method is only applicable for students enrolling in Public or Private Universities and have made an online application via EMGS website.

Once your student pass has been endorsed on your passport, you will be issued with an i-Kad, a biometric residence permit which bears your photo and other data to verify your identity. There are two ways to rent a room in Malaysia:

2. Renting a room outside of the university: Some students prefer to rent a room outside of the university campus and near the university. Students who want to rent a room in Malaysia, after arriving in Malaysia, can refer to apartments or houses near the university. If a landord has a private room for rent, he will normally place ads of the available room along with terms and monthly rental fee and his contact number at prominent locations such as the convenience store, supermarket, or management office of the building.
Rooms in apartments of Malaysia are generally in three categories:
1. Small Room: furnished, depending on the facilities and location of the apartment is almost RM350 to RM600 per month.
2. Medium Room: furnished, depending on the facilities and location of the apartment is almost RM450 to RM900 per month.
Large Room or Master Bedroom: furnished, depending on the facilities and location of the apartment is almost RM700 to RM1,400 per month. Each apartment has approximately 2 bathrooms and toilets, one of which is attached to the Master Bedroom and the other is shared by the small and medium rooms.

It is a quite a common practice for new students to either intially take a room at the University dormitory, and after getting familiar with the other students in the class or dorms, rent a whole apartment or house with two or three bedrooms near the university together, or to immediately rent an apartment or a house upon commencement of study.
Accommodation for rent in Malaysia are divided into 3 categories:
1. Fully Furnished Unit: The unit is fully furnished and includes all the basic items such as refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioner(s), fans, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, dining tables, shoe cabinet, study table, electric water heater, cooking gas, vacuum cleaner and furniture.
2. Semi Furnished Unit: The unit is partially furnished and includes only basic items such as fan, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, dining tables, shoe cabinet, electric water heaters, cooking gas and sofa. This category of accommodation is usually without washing machine and refrigerator.
3. Empty Unit: The apartment or house has none of the items mentioned in two categories above.
When you confirm the accommodation or reach an agreement with the landlord you should pay the following costs to the landlord:
1. Advanced rental for the first month
2. Rental and utilities deposits (collectively called Security Deposit) equivalent to two to three times of the rental
3. The cost of the tenancy agreement (preparation and stamp duty), which depends on the rental price and term
After receiving the keys to the accommodation, almost one week later the tenancy agreement is ready, with all equipment, fixtures and fittings noted in an inventory list within the agreement. You should check that all items are physically consistent with the inventory list in the agreement.
1. The phone number, address and bank account number of the landlord for payment of rent would also be mentioned in the agreement.
2. If you vacate the accommodation before the end of the agreement, the security deposit will not be returned to you.
3. If you want to renew the tenancy, inform the landlord two or three months before expiry as stipulated in the agreement.
